Website Security – Lifting the Google Malware warnings

A couple of days ago i noticed a hyperlink underneath Digistore’s link in The Google search pages which said “This site may harm your computer” and that before clicking through to our website, a huge warning page came about stating again that this website could harm your computer. Well as you can guess this didn’t do wonders for our search engine traffic.

What actually happened?

I can only speculate on what really happened in this instance, but after research i can only guess that this website had been attacked or injected with some malicious code of which Google detected as being either badware or malware. The problem has since been fixed, and Google has verified that in the search engines and to us that the website has passed it Google checks

Security

Simply reading up about what this issue it was evident that the latest upgrades to the software this website was using had not been installed and this was obviously a bit security threat. For a while we were a little annoyed at Google when i noticed web website traffic had dropped about 80 – 90% and what it could be doing to our reputation online. But after realizing what was really going on, it was evident i needed to tighten up the security and that Google wasn’t to blame. Since then 3 applications i have been using were out of date, and have been upgraded, i have re-checked portions of code and re visited Google for the re-view.

Google let me know overnight that the message had been lifted and that the website was no longer a threat.
